Two outstanding wines in their own ways. Slight colour differences between the two. RB was a deep purple with slight garnet on the edges. LB was med(+) Ruby with a slight fading at the edges.
On the nose both where clean. RB pronounced aromas and flavours of dried plum, red cherry, chocolate, vanilla, cedar and a touch of green pepper. LB had pronounced black currants, licorice, pipe tobacco, saddle leather with a touch of cloves and cinnamon.
Both were dry wines with medium (+) acidity and full body. RB had medium tannins and medium (+) alcohol. LB has high tannins and alcohol. Both had a long silky finish with LB exhibiting the baking spices and RB vanilla and red cherry.
Both wines are in harmony. Tannins, acidity and fruit are in balance. Both are drinking well now but will benefit from further aging.
